A TOP rugby star has appeared in court charged with sexually assaulting a woman at a bar.
Exeter Chiefs scrum-half Niko Matawalu, 27, is accused of attacking the female at the city's upmarket John Gandys venue on December 3.
The Fijian has 30 international caps and represented his country at the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
A trial was set for August 10 after he pleaded not guilty at Taunton Crown Court today.
The attack allegedly happened shortly after Matawalu joined the Premiership club in November last year.
Exeter Chiefs said the club would not be making any comment while court proceedings are active.
