PRINCESS Diana’s former secret lover has told reporters he is not Prince Harry’s father.
James Hewitt finally denied the long-standing rumour that has intrigued royal observers for years.
Speaking on Australian Channel Seven's Sunday Night, Hewitt discussed his love affair with the late princess.
Asked by host Melissa Doyle if he was Prince Harry’s biological father, he replied: “No I’m not.”
When pressed further on the persistent whispers, he told the presenter: “It sells papers. It's worse for him, probably, poor chap.”

Sunday Night interviewed Hewitt at his farm in Devon, where he and Diana had spent time during their affair.
He painted a portrait of a simple life, saying they walked along the beach and cooked together.
He said: “Well, I’d cook and she’d wash up. Just dinner and relaxing and laughing.”
Recalling falling in love with the princess, Hewitt said: “Well, yes. It’s a gradual period and then, you know, suddenly you can’t get enough of each other or see each other as much as you want.”
But Hewitt said he did not regret his passionate fling with the princess.
He said: “No, I don't regret that. I regret some of the things that have been caused by that but not that at all. No way.”
“I think she was quite easy to fall in love with really so I think I can be forgiven for that.”
The affair between the princess and Army officer Hewitt happened at the time Prince Charles was widely reported to have been cheating on Diana with his current wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles.
But the pair were forced apart when Hewitt was deployed to serve in the Gulf War, before splitting permanently when their infidelity was exposed in the media.
Since then rumours have swirled that Prince Harry was Mr Hewitt’s son, after intense speculation about their apparent physical resemblance.
Sunday Night also interviewed Diana’s bodyguard Ken Wharfe, who slept on a camp bed in a hallway outside the bedroom the princess shared with her lover.
Wharfe said “it was pretty obvious what was happening” but that “it wasn’t for me to moralise on this”.
He went on: “I didn’t really have a view on it openly or inwardly, you know.
“It was her life, their life. I was there for one specific reason – I would never let her down.”
Diana’s former butler, Paul Burrell, who recently came out as gay, also featured on the show.
He said it was impossible for Hewitt to have been Harry’s father as he didn’t meet Diana until her youngest son was already a toddler.
