Outbreaks of rain will push eastwards - turning into sleet or snow in some parts.

It will be largely dry elsewhere with sunny spells, especially across the south.

Met Office expert Honor Criswick said: "It's a different story in Scotland - plenty of clouds here and plenty of showers.

"Some of these will be turning heavy as sleet and snow over the Scottish Highlands.

"Elsewhere, though, plenty of bright autumnal sunshine after the cold start."

Across the UK it will be rather cold, but the sunshine should compensate somewhat.

Rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland will become more widespread through the night.

But the far north will be clearer, with just the odd wintry shower forecast.

The night will be largely dry but chilly elsewhere, with a patchy frost.

Apart from a few showers many southern areas will stay dry tomorrow with some bright spells.

Outbreaks of rain across Scotland and Northern Ireland will sink south into northern England and it will still be rather cold.

Sunday will be largely dry and fine with some bright spells, especially in the south and east.

It will turn widely unsettled next week - both nippier and more breezy.
