DEADLY COCKTAIL

Young bodybuilder, 20, died after ‘taking cocktail of drugs bought from dark web’

Robbie Ryder's death has now sparked an Interpol investigation

A YOUNG bodybuilder was found dead in his bedroom by his horrified mum after taking a lethal cocktail of drugs he bought on the dark web, an inquest has heard.

Robbie Ryder was found collapsed at his home in Hull just hours after opening a package containing items he had bought illegally online, the court heard.

Robbie, 20, was rushed to Hull Royal Infirmary hospital, but died just hours later on October 13 last year.

The inquest heard how the 20-year-old had high levels of two different drugs and steroids in his system.

Authorities have now raised concerns that ambulance crews did not alert police to the sudden death, therefore delaying their inquiries and making it harder to trace where the drugs had come from.

Pc James Gray told the hearing intelligence gathered had been passed on to Interpol to look into any criminal offence.

He said: "We found testosterone and other drugs in his bedroom. It seems he was heavily involved in taking body building steroids.

"We found a number of suspicious packages containing white powder with no identification."

He said that a name and address in Cyprus had been discovered, with the information shared with Interpol.

But he said that the investigation had been delayed a week because ambulance services did not inform police about the young man's death.

Pc Gray said: "It has been difficult investigating this a week after it happened. If we had been informed straight away we would have sealed off the scene and gathered all the evidence.

"We are particularly disappointed, we weren't able to get the envelope Mr Ryder opened the morning of his death as it could have contained DNA and fingerprints of the person who sent the drugs."

The young man's mother Yvonne Emerson said in a statement read out to the inquest that her son had struggled to cope after his dad died in a fatal motorbike crash, with Robbie just 14-years-old at the time.

She said: "That had a massive impact on Robbie and he struggled to cope.It affected his college work and he couldn't sleep.

"He turned to cannabis to cope with his anxiety and grief. But then he started working out and this gave Robbie structure in his life.

"The training benefited him. He was trying to be more positive and deal with his problems sober.

"But couple of weeks before his death, Robbie's demeanour changed and he seemed to be under the influence of something."

She said she had spoken to her son on the morning of October 13, the day he died, talking about how he needed to sort out his life.

But when she came home, she made the devastating discovery.

The young man's mum paid tribute to her son, saying: "We will remember Robbie who was cheeky and mischievous who had a lovely smile.

"He was very generous and made everyone laugh out loud with his antics and sense of humour.

"I watched Robbie grow stronger and face his demons. I was very proud of him. We love him so much and we always will. I will always remember my loving, smiling son."

Senior coroner Paul Marks ruled out suicide and recorded an open conclusion.

He said: "The police investigation was compromised and it is my intention to bring this to the attention of the ambulance service. After a week, the crime scene was decimated."
