YOGHURT TO BE KIDDING ME

Mum’s fury after baby daughter eats yoghurt which is three weeks out of date after Asda sends it in online shop

Fatima Chanfi, 29, has vowed never to shop at the supermarket again as she no longer trusts them

A MUM has hit out at Asda after she was sent a kids' yoghurt which was three weeks out of date and unwittingly fed it to her 19-month-old daughter.

Fatima Chanfi, 29, ordered 10 of The Collective's raspberry suckies for her 19-month-old daughter Amany as part of her regular online shop.

But it was only after she had fed little Amany one of the drinks the next day that she noticed it had expired three weeks before.

Fatima said: "I was very upset.

"My daughter is 19 months old eating expired dairy.

"They were 22 days off, I thought it was ridiculous.

"It was really, really scandalous to me.

"I was very worried about her health and what was going to happen.

"Nothing happened but I was scared."

Of the 10 treats which Fatima ordered on February 22, four were past their expiry date when they arrived - three by eight days, and one by 22 days.

The beauty saleswoman, who lives in Norbury, south London, said when she called Asda to complain, they apologised and offered to refund the four out-of-date suckies.

But Fatima said she felt she was being "brushed aside".

She said: "My daughter's health is more important than anything.

"They just said we are happy to refund you.

"When you order online, they are supposed to check everything, and check that the expiry dates are not too close.

"I said to them as a loyal customer I do not trust them anymore."

An Asda spokeswoman said: “We take complaints of this nature seriously and have tight processes in place to avoid such incidents.

"We’d like to reassure customers that our Wallington store has carried out a number of extra checks and can confirm that we have had no other complaints of this nature.

"We’ve spoken to Ms Chanfi to apologise and have offered a refund and gesture of goodwill.”

A spokeswoman for The Collective said out-of-date yoghurts were unlikely to cause illness, but it wouldn't recommend eating products past their use-by-date.

She said: "We will be discussing this matter further with Asda.

"Our products are delivered to the retailer with usually over two weeks' shelf life.

"The stores should check chilled products daily to ensure that stock is rotated and any low dates are discounted for a quick sale or removed if the use by date has been reached."
