Schoolboy arrested after woman in 60s and man in 70s stabbed at home
A 14-YEAR-OLD has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s were stabbed.
Emergency services swooped down to the scene in Ashington, Northumberland, just before 7am today after reports of a disturbance at a property.
A man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s were found suffering injuries consistent with being caused by a bladed article, said cops.
Northumbria Police confirmed their condition as stable.
The force arrested the schoolboy at the scene and he is currently in police custody.
Cops confirmed that they are still monitoring the area but stressed there was "no wider risk to the public".
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At 6.50am today (Friday) we received a report of a disturbance at an address on Alexandra Road, in Ashington.
"It was reported that a man in his 70s and a woman in her 60s had both sustained injuries consistent with being caused by a bladed article.
"Emergency services attended and both the man and woman were taken to hospital where they remain in stable conditions.
"A full investigation is underway and officers have arrested a male – aged 14 – on suspicion of attempted murder. He is currently in police custody.
