Cops refused to give details on the nature of the allegations, saying the investigation is ongoing.

Det Sgt Matthew LaRochelle said: "No major injuries, but we can't get into that, either.

"The case is still under investigation, so there is a lot we can't get into."

reports a probe by local authorities uncovered a catalogue of abuse at the Alpha-Bits Day Care Center in the state's largest city Manchester.

A worker referred to as Staff A yelled at crying babies to shut up, called them stupid and ugly, kicked their bouncy seats and picked them up by one arm.

She also held babies so tight they could not turn their heads and forced the teat of a bottle into their mouths as they screamed, creating a gurgling sound.

The worker, who looked after babies under six months old, was once seen kicking a bouncy seat holding a four-month-old, causing the infant's head to jolt forward and back.

A report said the employee "would call the babies ugly, dumb, a piece of (expletive), and so (expletive) dumb".

Co-workers were upset by what they saw but failed to tell bosses, a probe found.

The inspection report by the state's Child Care Licensing Unit was revealed hours after Blais handed herself into a police station yesterday.

She was released on $5,000 bail as the criminal investigation continues.

The nursery said it took "immediate corrective action" after being alerted to the alleged abuse on March 2.

A spokesman said: "Alpha-Bits is committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment to every child entrusted to our care."
