A BALDING mannequin with a beer belly has appeared in the window of a fashion shop in a bid to attract more shoppers - because he reflects the average male shopper.

The dummy stands in the shop window wearing the latest fashions and has been specifically designed to reflect the average male customer.

He takes pride of place in Nero E Bianco in Derby city centre and even has his own Instagram account.

Fashion stylist at the store Andy Holmes said: "He is fast becoming our shop mascot. Everything he is is what we want people to get from our store.

"He was actually in the basement for a while as we didn't know where he should go. But, as our store is different, we like it that he is too.

"I see people walking past, they pause for a moment, smile and even laugh, so it's great to see."

And Fred has been a big hit with customers, even attracting a keen female following.
