Harrowing moment victims lie injured after a car ploughed into them in Parliament terror attack in Westminster
THIS is the terrifying moment victims lie mangled on Westminster Bridge after a car ploughed into pedestrians before a crazed knifeman stormed Parliament.
Dramatic footage shows passers-by rushing to help as the victims clutch at their limbs after the 4x4 mowed them down this afternoon.
The chilling footage then pans out to show a stream of wounded pedestrians lying crumpled across the wet ground.
Some look unconscious after the horror, which saw the suspect continue on foot to Parliament brandishing a knife after injuring 20.
Four people are dead - including a woman flung under a bus, another on the bridge, and a police officer at Parliament who was stabbed by the maniac.
The assailant has also died, police confirmed.
Dramatic pictures show bodies littering Westminster bridge and the vicinity outside Parliament.
A woman was reportedly pulled alive from the River Thames and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The attack is being treated as a "terrorist incident".
Walking wounded can be seen wrapped in tin foil by the emergency services in chilling echoes of 7/7.
Bloodied victims lie sprawled on the wet ground as the ambulance service rush to their aid.
Three pupils from the Concarneau high school in Brittany are thought to be among those wounded after the car smashed into them on the bridge.
A trail of destruction can also be seen from Westminster Bridge to Parliament as the car tore through the busy streets during the carnage.
Rob Smith was running past Westminster when he said he saw the drama unfolded, told Sun Online: (The) grey Hyundai car came across the bridge then across the cycle lane, hit a man on a bike and drive into the wall gates.
"Police ran straight out and shot him. I think there was another person but I can't be sure."
Eyewitnesses old how one person was thrown over the edge of the bridge and others left bleeding with horrific head wounds.
A witness told The Sun Online: "I was just walking up to Parliament just about to walk in the steps.
"I wasn't looking when it happened but I saw the aftermath. (The driver) just went on the pavement and trampled a lot of people.
"There was a woman at the top of the steps her head was just pulsing with blood and bleeding out and there was another woman who flipped over the side of the bridge. Someone landed in the river somewhere.
"From what I could tell I think they got that person because I saw cops on a ferry. She was not in a good state and there were a load of bodies on the road.
"There's lots of people with head wounds."
London Ambulance Service deputy director of operations Pauline Cranmer said: “We can confirm we have treated at least 10 patients on Westminster Bridge and have put a number of hospitals on alert as we continue to respond to this incident.
“We were called at 2.40pm today, with the first ambulance crew arriving within six minutes.
“We have sent a number of resources to the scene including ambulance crews, London’s Air Ambulance and our Hazardous Area Response Team.
“We are working closely with other members of the emergency services at the scene, with our priority being to ensure patients receive the medical help they need as quickly as possible.
“We have declared a major incident and our priority is to assess patients and ensure that they are treated and taken to hospital as soon as possible.
“As we are very busy dealing with this incident, we would ask the public to only call us in a genuine emergency.”
The whole area is on lockdown with police closing the following areas: Parliament Square; Whitehall; Westminster Bridge; Lambeth Bridge; Victoria Street up to the junction with Broadway and the Victoria Embankment up to Embankment tube.
