Scotland Yard issues list of NO GO AREAS amid Parliament terror chaos
PARTS of London remain closed off barely 24 hours after the horror that unfolded yesterday, claiming the lives of four people and seeing 29 injured.
The public was warned to stay away from certain areas, with Westminster station still closed after a man wielding an eight-inch knife was shot outside of Parliament on Wednesday.
Westminster Bridge has been reopened not even 24 hours after the attack, with the area previously having been cordoned off.
Parliament Square remains closed.
The Mall and Constitution Hill were also reopened this morning but Transport for London has warned that all approaches to Parliament Square remain closed.
The gradual re-opening of the capital comes as the public continues to reel from the attack that claimed the lives of several people including mum-of-two Aysha Frade.
The Westminster tube station also remains closed but can be used to change, with travellers just not allowed to leave the station.
Met Police confirmed that they are treating the incident as being terror-related until they were otherwise informed.
Police have advised that the following areas are closed to traffic:
- All approaches to Parliament Square
- The A3211 Victoria Embankment between Bridge Street and Northumberland Avenue
- Whitehall southbound at the junction with Trafalgar Square
- Victoria Street at the junction with Storeys Gate towards Parliament Square
- Millbank northbound at Lambeth Bridge
- Bridge Street in both directions
- Canon Row in all directions
- Westminster Bridge - both directions
Cordons have been lifted on certain roads, including Lambeth Palace Road and York Road.
Westminster pier remains closed to the Thames Clippers.
Police have stated that the lock down is to ensure that emergency services will be able to deal with the ongoing incident.
Up to a dozen innocent pedestrians were mowed down on Westminster Bridge by a grey 4×4 which then crashed into the gates outside Parliament.
PC Keith Palmer was named as the hero cop murdered by a suspected terrorist, with the 48-year-old remembered as a dedicated husband and father.
Dramatic pictures show bodies littering Westminster bridge and the vicinity outside Parliament.
Commons Leader David Lidington last night told MPs: "What I am able to say to the House is there has been a serious incident within the estate.
"It seems that a police officer has been stabbed, that the alleged assailant was shot by armed police.
"An air ambulance is currently attending the scene to remove the casualties.
"There are also reports of further violent incidents in the vicinity of the Palace of Westminster but I hope colleagues on all sides will appreciate that it'd be wrong of me to go into further details until we have confirmation from the police and from the House security authorities about what is going on."
Prime Minister Theresa May was seen bundled away as witnesses recounted the horrific scenes of seeing two people lying within Old Palace Yard, immediately outside Westminster Hall.
The terror attack bears similarities to other recent atrocities.
It comes exactly one year on from the deadly Brussels attack that saw more than 30 people killed and another 300 injured.
