A DYING dog pulled from a burning building not breathing and with no pulse was incredibly brought back to life by firefighters who performed CPR on the pooch.
Firefighters performed mouth-to-mouth and used a special oxygen mask for dogs to bring the little dog back to life after he was overcome by smoke.
The dedicated team had pulled the tiny animal out of its owner's fire-ravaged flat after finding the dog unconscious inside.
Owner Crystal Lamirande, 35, watched on as the life-savers miraculously revived the Bichon Frise/Shih Tzu cross called Nalu.
Firefighter Andrew Klein told : "I discovered him amidst all the smoke and the heat. I grabbed him and as soon as I grabbed him I knew that he was unresponsive just by his dead weight."
Photographer Billy Fernando, who captured the drama unfolding, wrote: "This brave fireman named Andrew Klein from Santa Monica Fire Department went in for the rescue and gave the pet a CPR and took care of her back to life.
"Faith in humanity restored."
The fire happened at around 4pm on Tuesday at a one-story apartment building near Santa Monica High School, California.
The fire spread rapidly from a kitchen through to a storage room, and when firefighters entered the building, they discovered little Nalu overcome by smoke.
Crystal said she frantically tried to save the 10-year-old pet after he came home to find the flat on fire, running inside before being forced back by the thick smoke.
Despite not breathing nor having a pulse, rescuers did not give up and they battled to save the dog's life.
After 20 minutes of first aid, Nalu began to breathe on his own and was able to walk.
Crystal, a radiology nurse, said she couldn’t believe how much time the firefighters took to save her dog, who she describes as family, reports .
She said: "His eyes were glazed over and he was not breathing and I assumed he was dead.
“The firefighter said ‘I’m a positive person. Let’s just get him back.'"
“He’s been coughing but right now he’s fine and he’s so happy and smiling.
Dog-loving firefighter Klein said: “He was essentially dead, so to see him kissing people and walking around wagging his tail was definitely a good feeling.
“He’s very happy, and we’re very happy, too.”
Nalu was taken to an animal hospital and spent 24 hours in an oxygen chamber.
Reports said it took 23 firefighters to finally get the blaze under control.
No people are believed to have been injured in the fire.
It comes just months after a firefighter in Romania resuscitated a tiny dog carried from a burning building, saying "nobody gets left behind".
