Moment hero cop tackles gunman to the ground as he tries to speed away on e-bike in dramatic bodycam footage
The dramatic footage shows the criminal being wrestled to the ground
THIS is the moment a cop tackles a gunman to the ground as he attempts to fee on an e-bike.
Antonio Balu, 25, was speeding down the road in Birmingham when quick-thinking cops yanked him off as his black bike.
Bodycam footage has revealed the dramatic scenes, which resulted in Balu being sentenced to five years in prison.
Officers from West Midlands Police became suspicious after spotting him wearing a hoodie in sweltering 25C weather on August 13.
In the footage, the heroic PC Matthew More can be seen running into Balu’s path as he attempts to swerve round him.
The cop then grabs Balu’s backpack, forcing the gunman to crash into the kerb.
The criminal was searched and officers found a pistol loaded with three rounds of ammunition in his bag pack.
A panicking Balu tells officers: “I just found this bike and this bag, I just put it on now.”
An officer replies: “No you haven’t, we’ve been watching you for ages.”
When quizzed what was inside the bag he replies, “nothing”, adding: “I haven’t done nothing wrong.”
However, after uncovering the pistol, an officer confirms: “Firearm.”
Balu admitted possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition and was jailed for five years at Birmingham Crown Court last Wednesday on November 20.
Detective Inspector Jon Green, from West Midlands Police, said: “Balu claimed he’d just found the bike and the bag, but we pieced together his movements using CCTV to show that he’d left his house on the bike and carrying the bag earlier in the day.
“What started as a routine stop of someone acting suspiciously has resulted in a loaded firearm being taken off the street and the carrier being jailed for five years.”
It comes after another incident in Birmingham this week saw one man dead and another critically injured following a shooting.
Firearms officers picked up the suspect, in his 30s, in the Edgbaston 90 minutes earlier following reports two people had been gunned down.
One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene.
