A BODY has been pulled from a river in the search for a missing student who vanished in the early hours of the morning.

Reading University student Fintan, 18, was reported missing in Oxford on Wednesday last week.

Yesterday cops recovered a body from the water near Osney Mead, an industrial site in the city.

Formal identification is yet to be conducted but officers believe it to be missing Fintan.

His family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

The death is being treated as unexplained but not suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.

Detective Inspector George Atkinson said: "Sadly, we discovered the body of a man in the water near Osney Mead this morning."

He added: "Our thoughts remain with Fintan’s family at this difficult time.

"We would like to thank Lowland Rescue Oxfordshire for their support and assistance, as well as members of the public who shared our appeal and helped us in our search."

Fintan was last seen at about 3.31am on November 27 walking down Whitehouse Road near the Thames.

The teen student was wearing a blue jacket, trainers and long white socks.
