The video of Redden lunging at Judge Holthus quickly went viral as he was dubbed the "flying felon".

He was then sentenced on Tuesday by Judge Susan Johnson after facing seven charges and pleading guilty to all but one.

Redden had pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to attempted murder of a victim 60 years of age or older.

Judge Johnson said: "I am judging you guilty but mentally ill of committing the following crimes.

This was calculated by adding up different sentences for the various charges Redden faced - ranging from two to 16 years.

The judge denied Redden's attorney's suggestion to serve a concurrent prison sentence.

He was also ordered to pay $61,318.41 in "restitution to the victim".

The convict was serving time in prison for his attempted battery charge which he had seen Judge Holthus for.

With credit for time already served, the 31-year-old would be eligible for parole in the 2050s.

Redden pleaded to the court on Tuesday that he was "not a bad guy, not an evil person".

He said: “I don’t understand why the state is really going after my character.

"I mean I've always had problems since I was a little kid."

Redden had pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder charges in September, which the judge accepted.

Judge Johnson disputed how much this had impacted him.

She said there was: "No doubt from these doctors that you knew the difference between right and wrong."
