AN Alfa Romeo burst into flames in the carpark of a shopping centre in Birmingham.
The mall was evacuated as smoke and fire billowed from the smashed windows of the sports car.
At one point in the footage, a loud bang could be heard echoing through the car park as the flames intensified.
Another car was destroyed by the fire, which was allegedly caused by a faulty engine from a petrol-powered motor.
Emergency crews raced to the fourth floor of the Selfridges Moor Street car park, closing the building for an hour.
Two fire engines from West Midlands Fire Service arrived at the scene at around 10.30am.
An eyewitness told “As I drove up to park, I could see thick grey smoke covering most of the floor the fire was on.
“I parked up to see what was on fire and could already see a few people approaching near the scene.”
A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said: “Shortly before 10.20am on Monday, we responded to Park Street, Birmingham.
“Two fire engines and a 4×4 brigade response vehicle from Highgate and Canley stations responded, the first arriving within three minutes of being mobilised.
“This was a car fire affecting two vehicles on the fourth level of Selfridges and Moor Street car park.
“The fire was confirmed to have been extinguished with a hose reel by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus at around 10.50am. Fire investigators are now in attendance.”
In an update, a fire service spokesman added: “Faulty engine from a petrol powered car caused this fire.
“No suspicious circumstances or signs of arson.”
