A WOMAN has denied owning an American XL Bully that mauled her dad-in-law to death while he dog-sat at her home.

Keven Jones, 65, tragically uttered "I'm going" before dying from his injuries after the horror in Wrexham, North Wales.

His daughter-in-law Chanel Fong sobbed as she appeared at Mold Crown Court today.

The 31-year-old denied being the owner of the dog, called Cookie, which was "dangerously out of control at the time".

A provisional trial date was set for October next year with Fong released on bail until then.

Keven was looking after the family's five pet dogs in May 2022 while son Josh watched Wrexham play when the tragedy unfolded.

The former lorry driver suffered a leg injury and later died from blood loss.

An inquest previously heard how two-year-old dog Cookie was sedated by a police marksman before being put down.

Fong previously paid tribute to her father-in-law as she told how she gave him CPR before paramedics arrived.

She said: "Kev was with me but unresponsive, he grabbed my shoulder and told me he was going.

"I want to thank North Wales ambulance service, air ambulance, North Wales Police and their special dog handling team.

"But after working on Keven for 45mins he didn’t take another breath."

She also told how Cookie was a "big fat head play boy" who was not aggressive "in the slightest".

Fong added: "Just thinks he's still a small pup and bounces around rather than walk.

"I can't shake the feeling of Keven's blood off my hands and all I can hear in my head is Cookie's cries. Cookie did not attack Keven, he's a big boy and plays too rough."

Kevan's death came before a ban on XL Bullies came into force in the UK.

As of February this year, it is now illegal to own the breed unless owners have a valid certificate of exemption.
