Food fan gobbles up world record after scoffing three mince pies in astonishing time
A FOOD fan gobbled up a world record by scoffing three mince pies in 32 seconds at a church’s “beer and carols” night.
George Panai, 52, was among parishioners competing against each other to beat the previous best of 52.21 seconds.
Video footage shows the moment George manages to munch the first treat in five seconds — finishing all three before his opponent manages even one at St Margaret’s Church, Rainham, Kent.
The hospital engineer said: “After I had seen the others having a go, I thought I could do better than that.
“It was just such a great evening and it was a lot of fun. It was really nice because I could hear my kids cheering me on.
“I didn’t expect to break any records at all, but as soon as I saw the size of them I knew I could fit them in my gob in one. I used to eat really quickly as a child.

“They were absolutely delicious, I love mince pies and I could have gone through the whole box to be totally honest.
“I had actually only had dinner 45 minutes before the service had started so I was still a little bit full, but there is always room for pudding.”
George is hopeful Guinness World Records can verify his attempt after seemingly beating professional eater Leah Shutkever’s 2019 attempt by 20 seconds.
Vicar Nathan Ward, 44, who organised the event, said: “Never in a million years did we think we could actually do it.
“As you can see in the video, I was just absolutely gobsmacked, I didn’t know what to do. He went through those mince pies like the terminator!
“I had people turn round to me and say it was the best carol service they have been to. It’s not everyday you see something like that!
“People were epically failing before George went up, someone nearly choked doing it, but he just strolled up and casually smashed the world record.”
