‘One of a kind’ teenager, 18, stabbed to death in street as friends pay tribute – with schoolgirl, 16, among 8 arrested

TRIBUTES have been paid to an 18-year-old man who was stabbed to death - with a schoolgirl among eight arrested.

Noah Smedley was attacked in Ilkeston, Derbyshire, on Saturday evening, with five 17-year-old boys detained on suspicion of murder.

Cops were called to Rose Avenue after paramedics found the teen with a stab wound around 8.20pm.

Noah was pronounced dead on nearby Heanor Road just before 9pm.

A 52-year-old man and girls, both aged 16, were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

One wrote: "Fly high gone way to soon loved and missed by everyone my heart goes out to your family RIP Noah smedley."

"RIP my mate, I have no words," another said.

A third wrote: "Rest in peace sweet boy taken too soon." 

A fourth said: "I'll forever miss you Noah."

While a fifth said: "RIP my mate, I have no words."

Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that will assist with their enquiries.

In particular, cops are seeking CCTV/doorbell footage and any dashcam footage between the times of 7pm and 9pm in the areas of Heanor Road, Rose Avenue, Summerfields Way, Kedleston Drive and Peveril Drive.  

Detective Chief Inspector Claudia Musson, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are in the very early stages of the investigation, and we are treating it as an isolated incident.

"We are keen for anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency to assist with the inquiry into the death of this young man."
