A SCOT who was serving as a medic in Ukraine has been killed on the frontline, his family confirmed.

Jordan Maclachlan volunteered to help Ukrainian forces after the country was invaded by Russia in February 2022.

The 26-year-old from Ardnamurchan in the Highlands tragically died on Friday.

His family have paid tribute to their "fun-loving" son, brother and grandson, saying they are "so proud of him helping others".

In a statement, they told : "Jordan always believed that he was making a difference and we are all so proud of him helping others."

"We are waiting for further information from the Foreign Office as information is very limited.

"Jordan was a fun-loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and a friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him."

A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office spokesperson told the BBC: "We are supporting the family of a British man who died in Ukraine and are in contact with the local authorities.";

The Foreign Office advises against all travel to certain parts of Ukraine, and all but essential travel to other areas.

Several Scots have made the trip over to fight alongside the Ukrainian army following the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.

His family said he "made the ultimate sacrifice" by standing up to Vladimir Putin's troops in Ukraine.

They said the dad "died as a hero in an act of bravery as a paramedic".
