DENMARK has demanded talks with Donald Trump after the incoming US leader failed to rule out military intervention to take over Greenland.

The president-elect’s son stirred the pot after he touched down on the Danish territory and allegedly bribed local homeless people to be MAGA fans.

Trump sent shockwaves through the EU after he floated plans to seize Greenland to protect global "national security and freedom".

The president-elect’s idea faced a huge pushback as Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen hit back at the plans earlier this week.

The Dane made it clear Greenland was not for sale, she said on Tuesday.

Frederiksen said: "There is a lot of support among the people of Greenland that Greenland is not for sale and will not be in the future either."

The Prime Minister then revealed on Thursday that she had reached out to Trump and offered talks over the shock move, but added the pair had not spoken yet.

She said that Trump’s landgrab remarks were being taken seriously but added "Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders."

Frederiksen said: "We have proposed a conversation between us. I don't think anything concrete will happen until the president-elected is installed.”

Despite the Dane's wish for talks, she hammered down her belief that Trump would not attempt to take the Arctic island by force.

TOUCHDOWN

Although the president-elect has only floated the idea around, a visit to the ice island by his son made some eyes open.

.

Local Tom Amtoft claimed: “It's homeless and old people who can't make ends meet who can suddenly eat at a restaurant they've never been to before."

“All they have to do is put on a cap and be in the Trump staff's videos. They are being bribed, and it is deeply distasteful.”

Greenland's foreign affairs department added that Don Jr’s trip was an unofficial visit and only latest a few hours, with no formal meetings.

Despite this, Trump Snr could not resist hyping up his boy’s visit by uploading a glowing Truth Social post.

: "The hatred for Denmark has never been higher [in some parts of the population], and the gratitude for the US during the second world war and the cold war in terms of military [protection] has never been higher as well."

Other residents appeared to be staunchly against any takeover by Trump.

A local said: "Our country is ours – it’s not for sale.

"Trump says a lot of things that aren’t very serious, but now it’s become quite scary."

Another person said: "I fear our culture and our traditions, which we value very highly, would be taken away from us.

"The people in the US and Greenland couldn’t have been raised more differently – there would be a huge clash in cultures."
