Carrie Johnson reveals health battle in hospital with flu and pneumonia as she shares photos from NHS bed

Former Prime Minister's wife said she was 'struggling to breathe'

CARRIE Johnson has shared photos from her NHS hospital bed as she revealed her health battle with pneumonia and flu on Instagram.

Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson's wife announced that she had spent the last three weeks "horribly, horribly ill" suffering with winter viruses.

On an Instagram caption she wrote: "It just got out and I was struggling to breathe properly.

"Hospital confirmed I had flu and pneumonia.

"I was there nearly a week and I’m still not recovered.

"It could take another few weeks until I feel like myself again."

The wife of former Prime Minister  said that she spent the first few days of 2025 at John Radcliffe hospital in Oxfordshire after enduring a 'nasty' chest infection for nearly 18 days.

She added: "I say it a lot but they have looked after me and my family when we’ve needed it most and I will never not be enormously grateful.

"They are the absolute best of us."

Carrie extended a thank you to the hospital workers at the John Radcliffe, where she was admitted.

"When I was particularly low, one nurse even serenaded me by my bed," she shared.

She shared a sweet snap of some toys given to her by her young kids, Wilfred and Romy, to keep her company while she was in hospital.

The model dinosaur is Wilfred's favourite toy "Greenie" and the Princess keyring belongs to daughter Romy.

Carrie finished the sentimental post writing: "Health and family are everything."

This comes as England's ambulance service battles with their "busiest winter ever."

Hospital staff have described the surge of patients as similar to when Covid numbers were skyrocketing, with one claiming "it feels like the pandemic.

In 2020 Boris Johnson himself came down with the virus was put into intensive care after his symptoms "worsened."

Doctors revealed they were prepared to announce his death the case was so serious.

This month, Dozens of hospitals nationwide and the ambulance service have been forced to declare critical incidents in what had been branded the 'quad-demic.'

In the week of January 5 there were an average of 5,408 flu admitted patients each day with 256 in critical care with Covid, norovirus and the coughing bug RSV.
