Horror as man’s body is pulled from river with urgent probe launched into mysterious death

Cops have released a description of the man

A MAN'S body has been pulled from a river as cops launched an urgent probe into the mysterious death.

Police were called to the River Wensum, near the Novi Sad Friendship Bridge, in Norwich at 4.26am on Saturday.

Emergency services, including fire and ambulance, attended and pulled a man in his 40s from the water.

He was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital but died a short time later.

The force said his death was being treated as unexplained and it said his next of kin had been informed.

Officers are keen to establish how the man entered the water.

They have appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time to get in touch.

He has been described as "an Asian man", of slim build and is about 5ft 9in (175cm) tall.

He is said to have been wearing a black North Face puffer jacket and black trousers.

The man also had a distinctive wide brimmed hat on and was carrying a large black holdall.

Norfolk Police said: "Anyone who may have been in the Riverside area of Norwich in the early hours of yesterday and who may have seen anything,  or who has relevant dashcam or mobile phone footage is asked to contact Norfolk Police via any of the following channels quoting CAD 53 of 11th January."
