Who is Candie Dominguez from I Am A Killer & how long did she get for dismembering her cousin Jose Luis Menchaca?

The popular Netflix crime documentary has six episodes that include in-depth interviews with murderers, who recount why and how they performed some of the most gruesome killings.

The two-part story of Candie Dominguez introduces the gripping details of how she played a role in the brutal murder of her cousin, Jose Menchaca.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1979, Dominguez had a troubled childhood and ran away from home at the age of eight.

The inmate recounts how she spent much of her teenage years sleeping rough, and fell pregnant with her daughter at 15. 

In 2014, Dominguez struck up a relationship with a member of the Texas Mexican Mafia, Daniel Lopez which led her to be involved in a botched drug deal and stabbing between him and her cousin.

In September 2014, Dominguez and Lopez met Menchaca for a drug deal. 

During the meet up, a violent altercation broke out between her cousin and Lopez. 

Dominguez says in the Netflix show that Lopez threatened to kill her and her children if she didn't bring forward her cousin. 

Succumbing to the ultimatum, Dominguez admits to luring her cousin into what would become his murder scene. 

Menchaca was beaten with a baseball bat until he lost consciousness and was later found dead by Dominguez, but she didn’t report the murder.

Instead, she helped her boyfriend Lopez dismember Menchaca’s body.

Seven days after he was murdered, police received a tip-off and searched the property where they found remains of dismembered limbs belonging to Menchaca in the barbeque grill in their backyard.

What was Candie Dominguez sentencing?

Dominguez and Lopez were charged with murder.

Lopez was found guilty by a San Antonio jury in July 2018.

He was sentenced to life in prison.

Despite her children's pleas for leniency, Dominguez was sentenced in 2019 to the maximum penalty of 30 years imprisonment.
