The 1970s disco icons performed their hit YMCA to cheers from the crowd at the Capital One Arena.

Trump's many campaign rallies were often closed out with the iconic anthem.

Thousands of Trump fans and celebrities filled the almost 20,000 seats at the stadium in Washington DC.

During his speech Trump vowed to immediately sign over 200 executive orders on a range of issues from cryptocurrency to Artificial Intelligence and gender debates.

He also promised to build an Iron Dome air defence system and bring global conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East to an end.

And he said he would bring back TikTok - while the app "welcomed back" American users on Sunday, lauding Trump as the reason for its comeback even before his official return to the Oval Office.

Plenty of famous faces including Tesla tycoon Elon Musk, British Reform MP Nigel Farage and embattled UFC fighter Conor McGregor also made an appearance at the event.

Musk's toddler, named X, even ran onto the stage and danced as his billionaire dad gave a speech.

What does Donald Trump have planned for his first day in office?

BY Ellie Doughty, Foreign News Reporter

TODAY marks Donald Trump's first day in his second term as President of the United States.

The President elect has vowed to "make heads spin" by signing some 200 executive orders - mere hours after reentering the Oval Office.

"Starting tomorrow, I will act with historic speed of strength and fix every single crisis facing our country," he said last night.

"Every radical, foolish executive order of the Biden administration will be repealed within hours of when I take the oath of office. You're gonna have a lot of fun watching television.

"Somebody said yesterday, don't sign so many in one day, let's do it over a period of weeks. I said, like hell … no, we're doing them tomorrow."

After he is sworn in at the inauguration ceremony, he'll be granted the full powers that come with the position, leaving him free to sign directives on issues including illegal immigration, gender debates, Artificial Intelligence and cryptocurrency.

Executive orders can be overturned by the courts - or the next president - but do carry legal weight in the US.

Trump suggested a huge chunk of these would relate to immigration and border control - a key theme of his first term and election campaign.

He vowed: ";The invasion of our borders will come to a halt."

Trump also promised to become the US president behind the most deportations during his second term.

He may reinstate his "Remain in Mexico" policy which saw some 70,000 non-Mexican asylum seekers sent across the southern US border to await their hearings.

He has also vowed to scrap the law that means anyone born on US soil is an American citizen - although, protected by the constitution, this can't be removed with just an executive order.

Trump may also try to finish building a border wall between Mexico and the US, a plan he first put into action back in 2016.

The MAGA leader is also expected to proscribe drug cartels as "foreign terrorist organisations", placing them alongside groups like Al Qaeda, ISIS and Hamas.

His friendship with tech tycoon Elon Musk has grown alongside his efforts to champion cryptocurrency.

Some expect him to create a federal "Bitcoin stockpile" - similar to the US' gold and oil reserves - which he has claimed would be a "permanent national asset to benefit all Americans".

Trump last night promised to uncover a slew of classified documents on the assassination of President John F Kennedy, as well as Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King.

He is also expected to overturn President Biden's climate policies - including on the regulation of pollution or green job efforts - including a possible ban on new wind projects or electric vehicle mandates.

And he is expected to once again pull out of the Paris Climate Agreement, which he did in 2017, before Biden rejoined in 2021.

Presidents also have the power to pardon criminals - with Trump saying he is "inclined to pardon many" of those involved in the January 6 Capitol riot.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer congratulated the fellow leader and said he knows “that depth of friendship will continue” across the Atlantic.

The Labour chief said the “special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States will continue to flourish for years to come”.

NEW BEGINNINGS

Trump doubled down on his promise to enact his agenda on day one, telling the crowd: "You're going to see something tomorrow.

"You're going to see executive orders that are going to make you extremely happy. Lots of them.

"We have to set our country on the proper course by the time the sun sets tomorrow evening. The invasion of our borders will have come to a halt.

"And all the illegal border trespassers will, in some form or another, be on their way back home."

Meanwhile, Trump's political ally Elon Musk said: "We're going to really do great things here."

Supporters from across the country flew into the frozen capital and braved the icy weather to show up for their soon-to-be leader.

Trump told his fans: “Tomorrow, at noon, the curtain closes on four long years of American decline and we begin a brand-new day of American strength and prosperity, dignity and pride."

FAMILY TIME

Donald Trump's family also stepped out to greet the thousands of supporters.

Eric Trump walked out on stage with his wife Lara and two children who recited the pledge of allegiance to the Republican's fans.

Don's son said: "We as a family love you so much. This is the greatest political movement ever created."

A long list of speakers preceded Trump and praised his strength, attitude, and even appeared to credit him with the release of three Israeli hostages in Gaza.

Trump himself took to his social media to comment on the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and even the US ban on TikTok.

He wrote: "Hostages starting to come out today! Three wonderful young women will be first."

Trump's Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff credited Trump for the release in front of thousands of supporters.

He said: “We had a great team but it doesn’t happen without Donald J. Trump.

“The president was responsible for this release and we all owe him a debt of gratitude, as do all the families.”

Trump praised him and called Witkoff an "amazing guy" and a good negotiator during his own speech to the adoring crowd.
