A BABY is fighting for its life after suffering "catastrophic injuries" - with a man appearing in court.

Rhydian Jamieson, 27, has been remanded in custody after the tiny tot was left with "catastrophic and life-threatening" injuries.

The child - who cannot be named - is still in hospital in a critical condition following the alleged attack last Wednesday.

Police said they were called to an address in the village of Y Ferwig, in Ceredigion, West Wales, after concerns for the "welfare of an infant".

Jamieson of Newcastle Emlyn, appeared at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court wearing a grey jumper, and was remanded in custody.

No application for bail was made and he was told he would appear at Swansea Crown Court next month.

Dyfed Powys Police said: "The investigation team is grateful for the support of the community, while enquiries have been carried out."
