A CARELESS courier has been caught on camera hurling a package "20 metres" over a customer's gate like a shot put.

Shocking CCTV shows the Hermes delivery man eagerly launching the package over the gate after filling out the necessary paperwork.

Customer Craig Clough, 38, says he was stunned by the courier's delivery method – and the impressive distance it cleared.

The electronic engineer had been expecting a delivery of delicate parts on March 13 and is yet to discover whether any were damaged.

Craig, from Great Holm, Bucks., said: "I was quite taken aback when I saw the CCTV footage.

"He does all the proper stuff with filling in the forms, and then it's like he just can't be bothered any more.

"I was shocked that if someone is going to take that sort of care with a package, it doesn't really show that much consideration.

"It's still someone else's property."

The dad of four said: "I had a card through the door when I came home saying that my parcel had been delivered and it had been put at the back out the house out by the gate.

"When I went round to the back of the house the package must have been about 20 metres away from the gate at the side of my house.

"I was really surprised, and that was when I went to check the CCTV footage to see how it got there."

The package is shown soaring over the gate and clearing the bin, with the delivery driver then appearing to saunter off.

Astonishingly, it's not the first time a Hermes driver has been caught hurling a package across a customer's garden.

In January a courier in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear, was filmed lobbing a £50 package the entire length of a customer's 20ft garden.

And just weeks before that, shocking footage showed a Hermes courier carelessly chucking packages into the back of a van.
Craig said he couldn't understand the delivery man didn't just slot the package through the large gaps in his garden gate.

Craig said: "I've had packages delivered by Hermes before but I've been in to get it a few times, I've never had one left like that."

The engineer said he approached Hermes to complain and was told a line manager would "look into it".

A Hermes spokesman said: "We would like to apologise to Mr Clough for the manner in which his parcel was delivered.

"This is not the standard we expect and we have spoken to the courier to ensure this does not happen again."
