Officers had to carry out house-to-house enquiries to find out where the girl lived.

They eventually traced her mum and she was returned home safe and well.

A statement on the GMP Manchester East Facebook page said: "PCSOs Wayne and Marcus had reports of a four-year-old female walking in the Openshaw area with her two dogs.

"House to house was conducted in the surrounding area.

"The four-year-old is now safe and well at home with her mother.

"A big thank you to everyone who helped, posting this on social media to assist the police."

The dogs are believed to family pets.

It comes just weeks after another four-year-old girl was found walking her Staffordshire Bull Terrier alone in nearby Burnley, Lancs.
