Theresa May hires mastermind behind 2015 win Sir Lynton Crosby to run snap general election campaign for the Tories
Superstar strategist will help mastermind fight that began this morning when PM stunned Westminster
THERESA May has hired political guru Sir Lynton Crosby to run her snap general election campaign, The Sun can reveal.
The superstar strategist will help mastermind the seven-week fight that began this morning when the Prime Minister stunned Westminster with her shock announcement.
The 60-year-old Australian elections expert was also at the helm of her predecessor David Cameron’s shock victory in 2015.
Nicknamed ‘the wizard of Oz’, he came up with the winning strategy to target Lib Dem seats in the South West, as well as portraying then-Labour leader Ed Miliband as the SNP’s puppet.
Former PM Mr Cameron was so delighted with Sir Lynton’s performance that he awarded him a knighthood.
A senior No10 source told The Sun: “Lynton is on board, and we are delighted to have him. He is the best in the business”.
Sir Lynton’s business partner, fellow Aussie Mark Textor, will also run the Tories’ opinion polling operation.
Sir Lynton is expected to move into the Tories HQ within days along with key aides.
His firm Crosby Textor Fullbrook refused to comment and Tory HQ said the election team was still being finalised.
