Tragedy of anorexic schoolgirl, 15, who ‘jumped in front of a train days after leaving a psychiatric hospital’
Pip McManus ran out of the house after a row with her parents over her exercise obsession
AN anorexic schoolgirl, 15, stepped in front of a train days after being treated at a psychiatric hospital for her crippling weight obsession.
Pippa 'Pip' McManus died at Gatley train station, near Stockport, after a blazing row with her parents about her excessive gym use.
The teen ran away from home shouting: "I'm going to kill myself" before the tragedy.
She had been released from Priory Hospital, in Altrincham, just five days before, according to the .
South Manchester coroner Andrew Bridgman told jurors to consider whether Pip's release from the hospital had been properly managed after her parents, James and Marie, expressed reservations.
They said they were left with "no choice" but to agree with medics that their daughter should come home.
The Stockport inquest heard Pip's attitude to her weight had been a problem since the age of 12.
Mrs McManus said: "She started getting obsessed looking at her side profile in the mirror, asking if her chin was fat."
Exercise-addict Pip was obsessed with her diet and joined running and boxing classes.
Her mum said it "spiralled out of control" around Christmas 2012.
Pip was treated by children's mental health services in Stockport and Manchester before being admitted to Priory Hospital.
She was released on December 4 2015, but clashed with her family about her frequent gym visits.
Following a row five days later, on December 9, Pip ran out of the house to Gatley station where she was hit by a train and killed.
After her death, heartbroken mum Marie up the Pip Foundation for ABC Anorexia & Bulimia Care.
The inquest continues.
