Horrified mum ‘sick to her stomach after finding a NEEDLE in two-year-old daughter’s Kinder Surprise Easter egg’
Vikki Maguire-Grant, 35, claims she found it stuck on the inside of the chocolate shell after two-year-old Isabelle had taken a bite
A MUM said she was "sick to the stomach" after apparently finding a NEEDLE in her toddler daughter's Kinder Surprise Easter egg.
Vikki Maguire-Grant, 35, claims she found it stuck on the inside of the chocolate shell after two-year-old Isabelle had taken a bite.
Vikki, who bought the Easter treat from Asda, said she feared a "sicko" may have sabotaged the popular 100g eggs, which are themed either My Little Pony or Transformers.
She posted on Facebook: “Feel absolutely sick to my stomach — sitting opening Isabelle’s favourite egg with her and this needle’s inside... scary thing is I let her bite the outside first.
“Hope it’s just a machine error and not some sicko targeting kids... PLEASE CHECK YOUR EGGS!!!!”

Vikki, of Sunderland, later : “I do not know if it’s a needle or pin as one end is embedded. I could not see any holes anywhere on the box but I trust the experts to find this.
“At the moment I can only speculate how it got there. I reported it in case anyone else had the same problem and someone had stuck this in intently. As no one else has come forward I think it’s unlikely.”
She added: “I have no idea how it came there, my first concern is safety for my child and others when eating any kind of Easter egg.
“I have been in touch with Kinder who have given me full faith it will be fully investigated to determine if it was made with the egg — which I since think is unlikely — after they explained the production line and metal detectors used.
“Maybe we will never know but I certainly will check every egg for the rest of my life.”
Ferrero, the company that makes Kinder Surprise, said it is investigating the incident.
A spokesman said: "We have been made aware of an isolated incident where a customer has reported a foreign object found within one of our products.
"The product in question is being returned to Asda’s head office in Leeds, and we have requested for it to be sent on to us for a thorough investigation to determine what happened.
"We’d like to reassure our customers that we pride ourselves on the quality and safety of our products and have strict quality control procedures in place throughout our operations."
Asda said: “We want to help get to the bottom of what could have happened so we’ve sent the egg back to Ferrero for a full investigation and will keep Mrs Maguire-Grant up to speed on the outcome, as well as refunding her purchase.”
