Gambler ‘wins £21,700’ on Champions League footie but is shocked when Paddy Power cancels bet and says it WON’T pay out
Furious punter says the bookies told him his £7,000 stake was over the limit on his account — after it had accepted the bet
A PUNTER thought he had won £21,700 on the Champions League football — but says Paddy Power refused to pay out.
The furious gambler says the bookies told him his £7,000 stake was over the limit on his account — after it had accepted the bet.
The 25-year-old, was jumping for joy when Monaco romped home 3-1 over Borussia Dortmund in the quarter-final second leg on Wednesday.
He had backed Monaco at 21/10 and thought he was quids after just 17 minutes in as Paddy Power promised to pay out on a win when a team goes 2-0 up.
However he found his online account was blocked and when he phoned the firm says he was told the bet was cancelled before kickoff.

He posted a screenshot of his bets on Twitter - including a £3,200 losing stake on Barcelona - and called the bookies a "gang of cowboys".
He wrote: "If it had lost they'd have took the 10 grand mate its that simple. Gone 2 up and s*** the bed."
The gambler said he was told the bet was cancelled because he had a deposit limit on an old account.
The punter, who did not want to be named but lives in the Wirral, Merseyside, later said he would have used his winnings towards a house he hopes to buy.
He : “I had won money earlier in the week and just thought I would go for it.
“When I rang up to put it on everything was fine and they didn’t say anything about me exceeding my limit.
“But then when I was locked out my account and rang up they said they had cancelled it and my win was void.
“They are just trying to worm their way out of paying it.
“They had more than two hours to tell me that they had cancelled my bet but they didn’t.
“I just think it is a disgrace. It’s like even when you win, you lose.”
Paddy Power said: “We have a strict policy of not commenting on individual customer accounts.
“However, if a customer does have a genuine grievance we would always suggest that they take their case to The Independent Betting Adjudication Service.”
