E-cigarette ‘exploded like a grenade as man watched TV leaving him with horror acid burns and a hole in living room wall’
Ian Cudbertston in 'ridiculous amounts of pain' following terrifying blast at home
AN EXPLODING e-cigarette that blasted a hole in a living room wall has left its owner with horrific acid burns.
The device became red hot while in the pocket of Ian Cudbertston, 25, who was watching TV in his home at the time.
After he whipped it out it began to spark before exploding “like a grenade”.
Ian said: "It just blew up like a hand grenade.
"If I had been smoking it at the time it would have blown half my face off.
“My ex-partner is eight months pregnant and she was next to me at the time.
“I had to shield her from the explosion."

Ian had not realised at the time but the e-cig leaked toxic acid while inside his pocket, causing scorch marks across his back.
The blast saw a part of the device become stuck in his leg, causing a bruise the size of his fist.
It even burned a hole through the couch where he was sitting and blasted a hole in the wall of his home in Hull, East Yorks.
Ian went Hull Royal Infirmary for treatment for the burns to his back. He is awaiting an appointment with a plastic surgeon.
Ian added: "I am in ridiculous amounts of pain at the moment and I'm still in shock. I will never smoke another e-cigarette in my life."
Ian had bought the Caravela Mech Mod e-cigarette from a market in North Point Shopping Centre in the town the day before and he is now warning others to buy the devices from stores with a good reputation.
The trader who sold him the e-cigarette claims to have refunded his money and paid him compensation.
He says: "There was no fault with the e-cigarette itself but there seemed to be an issue with the battery".
After the ordeal, Ian took the charred remains of his e-cigarette to Hull Emporium for advice - they weren't the store who sold it to him.
Manager Chris explained that E-cigarettes consist of a tank where the liquid is stored, a coil and a mod which contains the battery.
He added: "You really have to mess up a lot of things for an e-cigarette to explode. You have to have the wrong battery in the wrong mod and the wrong tank.”
Ian's inuries come after one vaper lost SEVEN teeth when his device blew up in his face.
Andrew Hall was getting ready for work when the horrific accident took place.
