Russia’s richest man turns heads after mooring his £40 million superyacht Lady M in Clyde River in Glasgow

Alexei Mordashov is pals with Vladimir Putin and reputed to have a fortune of £13billion

A BILLIONAIRE’S £40million superyacht proved a striking sight in British waters today.

The Lady M, owned by Russia’s richest man Alexei Mordashov, gleamed while at anchor on the river Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland.

Passers-by gazed admiringly at the the 65-metre, three-deck ship which boasts its own helipad, outside the city’s Science Centre.

The vessel can sleep up to 12 guests in its six cabins. It also has a crew of 14 who share seven cabins.

The Lady M is powered by two MTU 16V4000 engines and she has a top speed of 28 knots.

Captain Gordon Scott once said about the yacht: "Lady M is an extremely safe and comfortable sea boat.

"We crossed the North Atlantic in under eight days and I was very impressed with the comfort in a seaway.

"The long, fine bow entry has a lot to do with this."

Its owner Morsashov is close friends with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Who is Alexei Mordashov?

Steel company magnate Alexei Mordashov, 51, is understood to have a fortune of £12.9billion.

The married dad-of-six stepped down as chief executive of firm Severstal in 2015 after 19 years at the helm.

He owns stakes in TUI Group, the world's largest touring company, as well as gold mining and engineering firms.

He is a council member at the Bolshoi Theatre and Russian Chess Federation.

He grew up in Cherepovets, 230 miles north of Moscow where both parents worked at the local steel mill

How Roman Abramovich has also taken his superyacht to the Clyde

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich also likes to take his £1.5billion superyacht in Scotland's River Clyde. The 557ft Eclipse was made for the Chelsea owner in 2010 and was briefly the largest private yacht in the world. It can carry up to 36 passengers and features a cinema, swimming pool, sauna and even it's own mini-submarine.
