A lot of pilgrims decided to take some pictures of the rare cloud and posted them online saying it was clearly the Virgin Mary, although other people believed it was God or Jesus Christ.

Others, however, believed that the cloud was a phenomenon caused by the presence of humidity and hot air in the atmosphere, and was not a miracle.

Pictures of the scene received a lot of comments.

Netizen ‘adadiazestilo’ said: "It was a beautiful spiritual experience"

Though ‘nurysmilagros’ added: "This is a sign that we are going to get out of this nightmare."

The use of the word "nightmare" refers to the current situation in the country with a lot of protest against the current government and the shortage of basic products in the majority of shops.

A riot also erupted in a Venezuela's eastern state of Anzoategui on Tuesday.

At least 12 people died and 11 were wounded following the incident at Jose Antonio Anzoategui prison.

Critics have said that Venezuela's prisons are controlled by gangs with ready access to machine guns and even hand grenades.

A prison spokesperson, who was not identified, told Reuters: "There are 12 people dead, nine shot, two due to drug overdoses, and one due to multiple injuries.”
