Tim Farron mocked on social media for saying ‘smell my spaniel’ while fussing over a voter’s dog on the campaign trial
TIM FARRON has been mocked on social media for being caught on camera saying "smell my spaniel".
The Lib Dem leader was fussing over a pooch in Cambridge when he uttered the odd phrase.
But it is probably a reference to Mr Farron's own springer spaniel Jasper.
Perhaps the dog could smell his scent on the Lib Dem chief - as he was not present at the rally.
A Lib Dem source told The Telegraph: "Jasper the Spaniel is safely at home in Milnthorpe- no doubt out delivering for the Country Council Elections next week."
The boss tweeted last night: "He wants you to know that his family are standing by him at this difficult time."
It sparked a range of Twitter users to make fun of him with amusing photographs.
One wrote: "Finally something coherent from the Lib Dems".
Another said: "No thanks Tim! I think I'll give that a miss."
And Scottish Tory boss Ruth Davidson said: "As a responsible dog owner, I would not let @timfarron smell my spaniel."
