Karen Danczuk’s bid to become an MP fails after selfie queen fails to be selected as Labour’s candidate in Bury North
KAREN Danczuk’s bid to become an MP has failed after the selfie queen failed to be selected as Labour’s candidate in Bury North.
The ex-wife of Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk said she wanted to enter Parliament to help victims of sexual abuse.
But the 33-year-old former councillor, who shot to fame thanks to very revealing selfies, lost out to James Frith, who stood for the party on the seat in 2015.
He lost out to Conservative David Nuttall by just 378 votes, who has held the constituency since 2010, when it was won back from Labour.
Ms Danczuk congratulated Mr Firth, saying she will come out and campaign for him in the run up to the Jun 8 snap election.
She tweeted: “Bury North have an excellent local candidate with you. You deserve a second shot at it.”
Last year she waived her right to anonymity last year after her brother was jailed for raping her when she was a child.

After becoming patron of the National Association for People Abused in Childhood, she said she wanted to become an MP to help victims of sexual abuse.
She said as she launched the bid to become an MP: “I really believe I’m a voice of the people.”
If she had been selected Ms Danczuk would have had the chance of joining her ex-husband in the House of Commons.
Simon, 50, is currently suspended by Labour but expected to be allowed to stand for the party for re-election in his Rochdale seat.
The pair were divorced in 2015, and he revealed he hopes to marry his new girlfriend Charlene Meade in an underground chapel in the Houses of Parliament.
