Sir Philip Green and wife lost £433m after BHS scandal – but are still fifth richest couple in the UK

The loaded pair dropped from third to fifth place in the Sunday Times Rich List but are still worth £2.8bn

TYCOON Sir Philip Green and wife lost £433million last year following the BHS scandal.

The pair fell from third to fifth in the ten richest British couples league table — the only ones whose fortune fell.

But they are still said to be worth £2.787billion, reveals the Sunday Times rich list.

Ernesto, 51, and Kirsty Bertarelli, 45, whose wealth comes from biotechnical and pharmaceutical businesses, were top with £11.5billion.

The overall fortunes of the top ten rose by £3.4billion.

Topshop boss Sir Philip, 65, was hit financially after sparking public outcry by selling department store BHS for £1 in 2015.

It collapsed a year later with a £571million pension deficit, leaving 11,000 workers out of a job.

Sir Philip agreed in February to pay £363million to bail out the scheme.

MPs called it inadequate as it leaves a £208million deficit.

Robert Watts, compiler of the rich list out this Sunday, said a record number of husbands and wives were making serious money.

He said: “A bit of pillow talk about balance sheets wouldn’t suit all marriages, but there are clearly some couples who are making it work — and very well.”
