She said: “It’s been awful. I’m not so well on my feet these days, so going out without the car is very difficult for me.”

June was unable to use her car for four days after Openreach dug the hole outside her home in Top Valley, Nottingham, last Friday.

The divorced mother-of-one said: "It's been hell.

"I went out at around 10.30am on Friday to go and get my shopping from Tesco, and noticed a BT van and a blue mark at the bottom of my drive.

"I asked a man there whether I'd be able to get out, and he said 'oh yes'.

"When I came back there was a barricade around part of the drive, and it was clear they were going to put a hole in.

"I had to do a very complicated 20-point manoeuvre in order to get back in, but to my relief I managed to do it.

"But a few hours later, when they had finished digging the hole, I couldn't get out.

"It was partly because my neighbours have a big van, which was blocking part of the driveway.

"It was frightening, because I didn't know how long I would be housebound for. I didn't see anyone from BT at all, and there was no explanation about what they were doing."

BT Openreach filled it in on Monday.

A spokesman said: “We’re sorry for the inconvenience.”
