Theresa May could achieve massive majority of 172 seats due to Labour’s collapse in the North
The PM could even beat the massive 144 majority the Conservative enjoyed under Thatcher in 1983
THERESA MAY could secure a landslide victory of 172 due to collapse of Labour’s support in the North of England, according to a poll of over 40,000 voters.
The results of the “mega-poll” carried out by pollster Lord Ashcroft suggests that Mrs May could even beat the massive 144 majority the Conservative enjoyed under Thatcher in 1983.
Britain’s leading election expert, Professor John Curtice, of Strathclyde University, told the Mail on Sunday the survey the survey pointed to a majority for the conservatives because of disproportionately large swings to the Tories across Labour heartlands in the north of England and the midlands.
It would be the largest majority achieved by the Conservatives since the 1930s, with the number of Labour MPs dropping from 230 to 161.
Another poll suggested Labour has narrowed the Tory lead in the polls since the party’s hard-left draft manifesto leaked.
