He then lost the rag with staff who confronted him and was flung out of Glasgow’s Princess Royal maternity hospital.

The High Court in the city heard his actions could have killed the tot, born with breathing problems two days earlier.

Prosecutor Adele MacDonald told how Tracey was spotted tampering with a “heart and saturation” device by nurses as he visited the specialist unit caring for the youngster.

She said: “They noticed that when the monitor sounded he pressed the mute button.

“He was told not to do that and became agitated and was removed by security staff.”

Tracey, of Cambuslang near Glasgow, admitted recklessly endangering the baby’s life.

No explanation was given as to why he turned off the alarm.

On around the same date in October 2015, the brute also assaulted a two-year-old boy he was babysitting.

The court was told suspicion fell on him over bruises on the lad’s face and body.

His sister then told cops she saw Tracey battering him.

Tracey pleaded guilty to his crimes on the day he was due to stand trial last week.

He was remanded in custody by Sheriff Paul Crozier and will be sentenced later.
