UNDER fire Donald Trump let rip over his mounting problems this afternoon declaring no politician in history had been treated "more unfairly" than him.
He advised United States Coast Guard Academy graduates that while things aren't always fair "you have to put your head down and fight, fight, fight."
"Never, never, never give up. Things will work out just fine," he said in New London, Connecticut.
"Look at the way I have been treated lately, especially by the media.
"No politician in history, and I say this with great surety, has been treated worse and more unfairly.
"You can't let them get you down, you can't let the critics and the naysayers get in the way of your dreams."
The comment seems a clear reference to questions about his treatment of FBI Director James Comey and the coverage of his attempt to get the FBI director to stop an inquiry into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
Trump then went on to moan about the media's coverage of his presidency.
He was joined by Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly at the graduation of nearly 200 soon-to-be ensigns into the service tasked with protecting the US's borders and waters.
"Adversity makes your stronger. Don't give in. Don't back down and never stop doing what you know is right," he said.
"Nothing worth doing ever, ever, ever came easy. And the more righteous your fight, the most opposition you will face."
Trump quickly went on to pat himself on the back for what he said were his many accomplishments since entering the White House.
He said: “I’ve accomplished a tremendous amount in a very short time as president.
"Jobs are pouring back into our country. A brand-new Supreme Court justice who is going to be fantastic for 45 years, a historic investment in our military.”
Border crossings, he claimed “are down more than 70 percent in just a short period of time. A total record, by the way, by a lot.”
Today's speech comes at a perilous time for Trump.
It's been claimed Trump asked the FBI director to end the investigation into Trump's former national security adviser whose ties to Russia are currently being investigated by the bureau.
"I hope you can let this go," Comey wrote in a memo, supposedly quoting Trump.
The reported memo has caused shock waves across Washington even raising the question of impeachment with Democrats and leading some Republicans to consider a special prosecutor to investigate the Trump campaign's ties to Russia's 2016 hacking.
Trump has so far avoided talking directly about the escalating controversy amid calls from the US Senate for the memo to be produced in public.
As reported, it is alleged that Barack Obama told pals that Trump is "nothing but a bull*****".
