He is celebrating four decades at the paper with his Back Garden exhibit, showing how small spaces can be transformed.

And three of his creations are in the running to be Plant of the Year.

Peter’s exhibit includes a toy car washing line, shed and barbecue.

He said: “It’s everyone’s back garden. I’m trying to inspire people and show what can be done in a limited space.”

Schoolkids played a big part in his stand, growing vegetables and helping to create a fairy woodland.
