THIS is the shocking moment a woman demonstrating Nissan’s collision avoidance feature is unexpectedly mowed down because the driver forgot to switch the system on.
The employee at the sitting behind the wheel of the brand-new Nissan Rogue tapped the on-board touch screen twice - turning the fail-safe on and then off again.
The driver was said to be "unfamiliar" with the state of the art safety system.
Standing in front of the car at the annual Spring Auto Show in Dazhou City, China, the female compare holds a mic as she tells the crowd about Nissan’s Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) software.
The system promises to help prevent collisions by automatically braking when obstacles appear ahead, sensing objects using state-of-the-art technology.
But things very quickly go wrong during the demo as the aptly named Nissan fails to stop and instead crashes into the woman, sending her flying backwards.
Fortunately, the blundering driver managed to hit the brakes in time stop the car before it rolled over the embarrassed and injured hostess.
The woman was taken to hospital for treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The Dazhou Automotive Association, the host of the annual event, has blamed the driver for the accident and sited the human error as the only reason behind why the FEB demonstration failed.
A spokesman said the system needed to be turned back on, which the driver failed to do, adding that the FEB system would then work when the vehicle was going at a certain speed.
The statement, which also included a public apology, noted that the injured woman would be compensated by the organisers.
