Ukip set for crushing General Election defeat as almost half of supporters ditch party for Theresa May

JUST one in six people who voted for Ukip in 2015 will support the party again next month — but almost half will back Theresa May, latest figures reveal.

The blow came as the Prime Minister maintained a 14-point lead over Jeremy Corbyn, despite the Labour leader enjoying a five-point post-manifesto bounce.

Tory support fell to 47 per cent, according to polling company ICM, while Labour rose to 33 per cent.

The Lib Dems fell one point to nine per cent, while Paul Nuttall’s Ukip fell two points to four per cent.

A separate YouGov poll found Tory pledges to increase NHS spending by £8billion and crack down on health tourism have won the thumbs-up from voters.

With just over two weeks until the June 8 election Ukip's fortunes of clawing back ground are appearing bleak.

Yesterday Ukip leader Paul Nuttall told Andrew Marr the party did not need to win any seats in order to be a successful political force.

He was earlier forced to defend a humiliating poll which placed the party on a dismal 2 per cent rating — giving rise to hapless Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Earlier in the month, Nuttall all but admitted defeat at the polls as he said a Tory advance is a price he's 'prepared to pay' for quitting the EU.
