Footballer son of former England international Richard Wright slammed for insensitive Snapchat about Manchester bombing
THE son of former England soccer star Richard Wright has been slammed for posting an “insensitive” Snapchat amid the Manchester terror attack.
Harry Wright, himself a footballer for Ipswich Town, sent out a selfie with the caption: “In Manchester with the bombs but still having a belta with my main man joe.”
As fans turned on the 18-year-old and said he should "never wear the shirt again" he issued an apology following the devastating suicide bombing at the Manchester arena on Monday night.
He admitted he made a "massive error of judgement" and "deeply regrets" his post after the attack which killed 22 and injured 64 at the end of an Ariana Grande concert.
He said in a statement: "I would like to apologise wholeheartedly for the insensitive comments I made on social media while out in Manchester.
"I wasn't aware of the full situation regarding the tragic events when I made those comments but that is no excuse.
"It was a massive error of judgement and something I deeply regret.
"My thoughts and condolences go out to all the victims and their families."
The Snapchat post, reposted on Twitter, was slammed by outraged Town fans.
Furious Graeme Brooke said: "What a disgrace Harry Wright should never wear the shirt again.
"Thick, insensitive or both."
Fuming Twitter user @itsoceloteitfc added: "From a Town fan, this is absolutely disgusting for all of us.
"These kind of behaviours shouldn't be tolerated [sic]. Hope he would be punished."
Ipswich Town spokesman Jonathon Ogle said: "The club would like to reiterate that our thoughts and condolences are with all those people affected by the deeply tragic events in Manchester."
Wright's high-profile dad Richard Wright, 39, played for Ipswich, Arsenal, Everton and West Ham as well as winning two caps for England in 2000-2001.
Terrorist Salman Abedi, 22, was unmasked as the attacker as Theresa May yesterday raised the UK threat level to “critical” for the first time in ten years and said she may deploy armed soldiers on the streets because another terror attack could be “imminent”.
The Sun can reveal Abedi had secret jihadi training during family trips to Syria and spooks fear he was not acting alone when he carried out the atrocity that ISIS has claimed responsibility for.
His 23-year-old brother Ismail was arrested yesterday and quizzed by cops.
Witnesses told of seeing shards of metal tearing into concert-goers in the foyer area of the world-famous concert venue – leaving dozens lying in pools of blood.
The blast could he heard echoing through the packed arena as families tried to make their way home as the concert came to an end just after 10.40pm - and left panicked people desperately trying to attend to victims.
