The band posted a photo of the packed venue around half an hour before lead singer Andy Bell told fans they had to leave the building.

Their original post said: "Glasgow is ready for the first Erasure show of 2017. #worldbegone"

Audience member and community services coordinator Gary Maguire from Glasgow said: "Just after the second song in Andy Bell announced 'There is a fire in the building and we need to evacuate' . The lights came on and we were all told to leave.
The place was full to capacity and people were dead worried and were wondering what was happening.

"We don't know where the fire is and they are not telling us anything."

Fans took to Twitter to post their concern over the drama.

Phil Honoursson said: "Concert evacuated due to fire at #glasgowo2academy Not a wind up. Andy Bell given message by Vince Clarke live on stage. #glasgow #scotland"

While Gary Lafferty said: "@erasureinfo gig in Glasgow stopped after 3 songs as there's a fire in the @O2AcademyGgow 🔥 ... hopefully minor & no injuries 🚒🚨"

Another concert goer told The Scottish Sun: "A staff member said it was something to do with the air conditioning."

Three fire trucks were sent to the incident - which transpired was a small fire, which was extinguished by the time crews arrived.

Revellers have now been allowed back into the venue.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received a call around 9.13pm to the O2 Academy where a small fire was extinguished before crews arrived.

"Three appliances attended because of the amount of smoke coming from the building.

"Crews have now left the scene."
