SICKENING ABUSE

Hero surgeon told ‘go home you terrorist’ by racist yob after a 48-hour shift saving lives of Manchester victims

Naveed Yasin said he was also called a 'P*** b******' during the stranger's shocking tirade

A HERO trauma surgeon was called a "terrorist" and racially abused on his way to work just hours after completing a 48-hour stint saving the lives of Manchester attack victims.

The racist outburst came from a van driver hurling obscenities at him as he drove back to hospital to perform more life-saving surgery.

Naveed Yasin, who was born and raised in Keighley, West Yorkshire, told the outburst left him stunned.

The driver said: "You brown, P*** b*****d. Go back to your country, you terrorist. We don't want you people here. F*** off!"

He told the paper that his family could have been victims of the attack. His daughter wanted to attend the Ariana Grande gig, but he said no because it was a school night.

He added: "It so easily could have been us.

"Terror attacks don’t discriminate against race or religion but this [the racial abuse] didn’t discriminate either.

"Many of my colleagues and I had never experienced injuries from a bomb blast and the effect it has, seeing these, is extremely profound and traumatising."

He added that he had told police about the racist abuse.

Around 10.30pm, just as the US singer's performance had ended and crowds were exiting the Manchester Arena, suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a home-made nail bomb, killing 22.

Meanwhile, 40,000 defiant joggers today paid tribute to the victims of the blast as they participated in the Great Manchester Run.
