A SLAUGHTERHOUSE has been filmed demanding money from animal activists to save the lives of a dozen dogs in China.
Sickening footage shows pooches including huskies, Labradors and golden retrievers tied up waiting to be killed at a butchery in Harbin, Heilongjiang province.
The clip, which was posted on , shows a female dog lover standing in front of the slaughterhouse.
As she points at the large chopping board, she says: "When we first arrived, a golden retriever was being slaughtered."
Many of the animals can be seen lined up next to dog meat, knives and animal blood - waiting to meet their death.
The woman and a group of activists offer to buy the dogs to spare them and negotiates with the butcher.
While cutting off the flesh off a doomed dog, the butcher insists the group must pay £170 for each animal - which is more than a week's wages for an average Chinese worker.
Despite their efforts, the desperate group fail to raise enough funds and are forced to watch the brutal killings.
The video ends as another dog butchered and hung on a hook.
It is thought that between ten and 20 million dogs are killed for consumption in China each year.
China’s annual dog meat event in Yulin has become a global symbol of the immense cruelty of this trade.
It’s estimated more than 10,000 dogs and cats, many still wearing their collars, are crushed into cages and driven to Yulin by traders, to be brutally killed and eaten.
The World Health Organisation has warned the trade helps spread the cholera-causing bacteria, and estimates that eating dog meat increases the risk of contracting cholera.
Dogs are rounded up from all over China, crammed into tiny metal cages and transported hundreds of miles without food or water.
Many are stolen pets. Others are strays or bought from animal rescue shelters and dog meat retailers.
