Tim Farron has to break up a balloon fight as he prepares for TV election showdown with mock debate between children
Lib Dem leader warmed up for the biggest event of his campaign saw him chat to young voters about Brexit
TIM Farron had to break up a balloon fight in the audience as he prepared for tonight’s seven-way TV election showdown with a mock debate between children.
The Liberal Democrat leader warmed up for the biggest event of his campaign so far by chatting to young voters about Brexit.
He also regaled the kids with an anecdote about bumping into Take That singer Howard Donald on the doorstep.
Mr Farron moderated the event at his party’s Westminster HQ, and saw him asked questions such as: "Are you prime minister?".
He was also asked "How did God make the world?", and "Why does Theresa May want to stop us eating school dinners?"
And when the Lib Dem boss asked the children representing party leaders what they would do if they were PM, answers ranged from "banning home work" to "re-entering the EU".
Mr Farron, who at one point had to intervene to try and stop the balloon fight, told the children about bumping into the Take That member in Cumbria.

He said: “I was in Kendal last week, walking down one of the alley ways, and some guy sat on a door step said 'hello Tim', and I looked down at him and it was Howard from Take That.
"I was most excited that he recognised me. I was so blown away, I didn't ask him for a selfie. It is true, honest."
Before the mock debate, which preceded this evening's real life TV showdown, a Lib Dem official told the children: "You're doing a very important job helping Tim Farron prepare for tonight."
The BBC debate has been livened by the shock announcement by Jeremy Corbyn today that he would be appearing to represent Labour – despite forgetting to announce it himself.
Meanwhile Amber Rudd will be there for the Tories, and Theresa May defended her decision not to appear on the show, describing the event as “politicians squabbling among themselves”.
