Opposition MPs plot to amend tenants rights in a bid to bring down Theresa May’s Government

OPPOSITION MPs are plotting to amend tenants rights in a bid to try and bring down Theresa May's Government, sources claimed last night.
Only a handful of Tory or DUP MPs need to vote against the Government with Labour, the Lib Dems and SNP MPs to overturn the PM's fragile working majority.
Defeating the Government on Queen's Speech amendments covering legal rights for tenants, a Brexit Commission or the Irish border could trigger a no confidence motion in Parliament.
In days gone by, amendments to the Queen’s Speech mean the Prime Minister must resign.
But the Fixed Term Parliaments Act 2011 makes clear only a vote of no confidence vote in the House of Commons can bring it down.
A House of Commons source said a successful amendment “would be a unique situation – they would have to make a decision if the Government was strong enough to continue”
It's believed Labour’s chief whip Nick Brown has met Alistair Carmichael, the Liberal Democrat chief whip to discuss the plan.
